From the backgrounds of the band members you will find Finnish ska bands, such as The Valkyrians and The Blaster Master, so scholarships have been paid on the way and the famous groove has been sought.
The Northquakes debut album “Tears In Rain” was released on May 17, 2019. The music and production of the album are the responsibility of e.g. The original bassist and composer of The Valkyrians, Kari Starck. The vocal melodies and lyrics are written by singer Elisa Moonstomp.
The songs heard on the album have their roots mainly in northern soul, reggae and rocksteady. In addition to this strong rhythm base, the songs have a real dose of influences from many other genres, and the album ensemble is a completely new kind of modern rhythm music. The band itself summarizes their music to the term soulsteady.

The birth story of the name “Northquakes” begings in Northern Ostrobothnia. In the spring of 2016, the band was recording their first beats in Liminga. When the low-frequency amplifier fired rumbling bass notes into the air, it also roared in the Bay of Bothnia. A rare natural phenomenon was experienced at these latitudes: an earthquake. The Northquakes had been born with a moderate 4.1 Richter. Since then, those sound waves have spread throughout Finland, e.g. by Yle and Radio Helsinki.
